Pit Boss: First Playtests

Pit Boss’ first playtest is now complete! We received some incredibly helpful feedback, and are very thankful for all of our playtesters and are glad they enjoyed the WIP title. The aesthetic, soundscape, and general vibes all seem to be on point, so we are off to handle the bugs!

(Dan) One of the first things we will be tackling is the camera and its controller. While people seem to be happy with the perspective, there were issue with the currently hard-fixed sensitivity. We’ll be adding in a sensitivity slider for easy adjustment to address this issue. We are also seeing the camera passing through some objects, and the clipping plane needs to be tweaked to prevent seeing through some models. I’ll likely use a technique similar to how the cursor is being handled, keeping the camera in line with the player head but moving it close to the body when it collides with a wall.

Next, we had resounding requests for us to implement the elevator currently sitting un-modeled and non-functional on the ground floor. This will be a combined effort for scripting, art, and sound, but the end goal is to have a convincing glass elevator with multiple floor buttons that the player (and potentially NPCs) can use to traverse the casino quickly.

(Johan) Crashes are happening with the WebGL build, possible reasons may be collisions with the walls and certain objects through the character controller. Other possibilities may be with NPC interactions and NPC spawning. Will work with Dan to figure out this issue.

After playtesting, we received many comments of praise for the overall design of the casino, but we also had many people bring to our attention that there seem to be some issues with the colliders for the walls and some of the tables on the second floor of the casino. We will be looking into these issues, checking the colliders, and changing what is necessary to create a smoother experience for the players. As well with this, some areas, specifically around the side stairwells, have issues with z-fighting, possibly a remnant from when we first combined the floors together. We will be adjusting the size of the wall/floors where the issue occurs as well as checking other areas to avoid this issue in the future.

(Noah) Sound mixing is overall good, the music however needs to be lowered in volume. So far the reaction to all other sound design that has been added is positive. Will work on adding more, as well as creating a better loop for the music.
